Condensation

The dehumidifier draws in moist air from the surrounding environment. This air passes over a cold evaporator coil. As the warm, moist air comes into contact with the cold coil, the moisture in the air condenses into water droplets. This is similar to how water droplets form on the outside of a cold glass on a hot day.

Collection

The condensed water droplets collect on the surface of the evaporator coil and then drip down into a collection tray or tank. Some dehumidifiers have a continuous drainage option where the water can be piped away directly.
